Due to the discovery of gold, people were willing to sell and trade more of their belongings, which boosted the United States economy. A lot of other factors play into boosting the economy, such as farming and people inventing new things with their new found wealth.

Although the gold brought up the financial economy, it destroyed the environment. Mining contaminates water, forces animals out of their natural habitat. The contaminated water drained the clean water from crops, and drained water from sea animal territory- killing them.
